INDIVIDUAL CHAPTER:
MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

Cheryl and her trishaw Gertrude offer rides all across Marin County. As an Individual Chapter, she is the sole pilot. While she initially had planned on training more pilots, she has realized that her heart is really in offering as many rides as she can on her own.
Here is an example of a typical trishaw ride:

How it Got Started
Ole’s TED talk kept coming up in her research on bike commuting, got her hooked.
Bought her first trishaw with funds she inherited from her father when he passed.
Initially tried to train pilots locally. Realized she would rather focus on giving rides.
Loans Gertrude the trishaw out from Bend to Sacramento to inspire others to start chapters
Chapter Operations

All funded directly by Cheryl’s time and resources

Offers rides through several senior homes,a group that houses homeless, and direct booking with individual seniors.

Local ebike shop helps with maintenance

Transports her trishaw in her truck, loading with motorcycle ramps

On the Trail

Even as a solo operator, Cheryl knows the importance of getting Gertrude out into the community in creative ways. As an avid cyclist herself, she works to provide adventures for older adults both locally and further afield.

Brings Gertrude to senior free lunches and offers rides

During the holidays, brings seniors out to see the best lights in the community

Has loaded up Gertrude and a riding partner and driven her truck out to ride locations that have a special meaning for that riding partner

Chapters in Action

Cycling Without Age can manifest in all shapes and sizes. Single trishaw operators. Senior community networks that have a trishaw at each facility. Chapters with a dozen trishaws that have their very own birthday party planning committee. Here are a few examples to inspire you with the possibilities:
