Community Chapter
Anne Arrundel County, Maryland

Before Sandy Bishop founded this Community Chapter, she didn’t think of herself as a cyclist. Now she and a core group of volunteers offer trishaw rides on the tree lined multi-use path that traces the historic B&A rail line between Baltimore and Annapolis. Their chapter is a program of BikeAAA, a regional bike advocacy organization.

How it Got Started
Came across CWA while looking for mobility options for her daughter with disabilities.
Approached BikeAAA to see if they would help start a chapter, they said yes. Got a grant that funded their first trishaw.
Started working with caregivers for adults with disabilities to book rides.
Got two additional trishaws to keep up with community demand for rides.
Chapter Operations

Exist as a program of BikeAAA.

Funded by local and regional grants.

Offer rides at three senior living facilities.

Trishaws are maintained by pilots who are professional mechanics.

On the Trail

Sandy has worked to make sure that her chapter’s trishaws turn heads in the community. This means getting them out to as many public events as possible, often decked out in seasonal flair.

Participate in local 4th of July Parade

Decorate their trishaw with pumpkin garlands for Halloween.

Take the trishaws to local schools to teach kids about the program and its benefits for the older adults in their community.

Chapters in Action

Cycling Without Age can manifest in all shapes and sizes. Single trishaw operators. Senior community networks that have a trishaw at each facility. Chapters with a dozen trishaws that have their very own birthday party planning committee. Here are a few examples to inspire you with the possibilities:
